crystal

feeling like a misfit in the

wandered halls of learning

crystal never kept a ledger

of her reputations earned

her daddy was an oilman

and he tried to keep her happy

still there was a lonely longing

for more simple pages turned

she spied a friendly smile from

a boy atop a scooter

and she marveled at the labor

of the hours to the miles

she gave a little nod so as to

welcome him the closer as

this day was made for talking

under blue but autumn skies

mustering his courage he

approached a kindred spirit

and they found a break of schedule

where the two could be alone

thus began the dreams and scheming

of the princess and the poor boy

as they found a ground of common

at the college on the lawn

and many years the later

they would look back to the moment

when the misfit pieces melded

complete puzzle into form.
